Now what? Is Popapalooza 2008 over?

Well,
The Holy Father is back in Rome but he has left us with clear and unambigouos instructions on how to behave as Catholics in the modern world. He has left a road map for navigating through life and modern society without losing our identity as Catholics. He is restating "Be in the world but not of the world" with practical, step by step instructions. What are those step by step instructions?

If the Holy Father's message to us here in the USA is to mean something, if it is to lead to a renewal in the Church in America, then we are to examine and execute these point by point. It is not enough to say "Well, the homilies and speeches were full of great inspiration" or "I am glad he talked about the abuse scandal and we can put that behind us."

(To a large extent, the scandal was a symptom of something indemic in modern society and at odds with Catholic teaching, the relativistic objectivisation of human beings. But that observation is just one thread in the tapestry of the Holy Father's visit. )

We must sift and examine every point if there is to be any real "effect" of the Papal Visit.

I think that his message is really "counter cultural" in that it proposes a culture which is based on Catholic teaching. There is a part of the Catechism on virtually every subject involving morality and social justice. Every Catholic should have access to a copy of the Catechism.
